What causes Dry Skin?

  • An inherited group of disorders called ichthyosis which is sometimes upsetting the human beings and disfiguring too.

  • Causes are skin care products, weather, and bathing habits.Cool and dry weather is also the reason that causes the skin to lose moisture, to crack, and to chap.

  • Alcohol, smoking, and astringents that found in toners, aftershaves, and other skin care products make the skin dry and irritate the skin as well.

  • Dryness and water loss can also be caused by hot water and prolonged bathing.

  • Scrubbing brushes, antibacterial, granular soaps or deodorant soaps may also aggravate and worsen the condition of dry skin.

  • They need proper treatment otherwise they become severe.

Symptoms

  • Itchy rashes and patches

  • Gray and ashy skin in people with dark skin.

  • Cracks in the skin, which may bleed if their severity increases.

  • Cracked lips.

  • Rough and scaly skin.

Causes

  • With the growing age, our skin becomes thinner and drier. By our 40s and 50s, we see that many people start using good moisturizers every day to keep the dryness away.

  • Living in a dry climate such as a desert.

  • People as a child suffered from atopic dermatitis (also called eczema).

  • Nurses, hair stylists, and people in other jobs who often immerse their skin in water throughout the day from giving services, it will cause their skin to become dry, raw, and crack

  • Some swimming pools have high levels of chlorine, which can make our skin dry and tanned.

Treatments

  • Moisturizer: Patients can keep their body moisturized by applying a good quality moisturizer frequently throughout the day to keep the dry skin away. There are so many options available for body moisturizers that comes in a many forms such as ointments, creams, lotions, and oils.

  • Medication: When your skin is extremely dry and rough, Dr. Syed may prescribe a proper medicines that will give you effective results in return.

  • Changes to your day routine: Stop engaging your hands in water throughout the day, you may need to stop doing this for a few days to get your skin back in a smooth and supple form. When you need to immerse your hands to do water activities in water, you may need to wear gloves or apply a special and prescribed moisturizers throughout the day to keep them moisturized.
