It is an exfoliating technique that uses a rotating instrument which helps to remove the outer layers of skin, usually on the face. This treatment is a popular option for those who wish to improve the appearance of their skin. It can also treat some skin conditions such as fine lines, sun damage, acne scars, and uneven texture. It removes damaged outer layers of the skin and exposes a new skin layer that appears younger and smoother than before.

What are the reasons for getting Dermabrasion?

It can be used to treat following conditions of the skin:-

  • fine wrinkles

  • precancerous skin patches

  • rhinophyma, or redness and thick skin on the nose

  • scars from surgery or injury

  • sun damage

  • uneven skin tone

  • acne scars

  • age spots

Treatment Procedure

The procedure starts with the anesthesia that will numb your skin before removing the outermost layers of your skin. It is known as an outpatient procedure that means you can go home to recover after the treatment and no admission is required. There are various over-the-counter devices that help to stimulate the cleansing and exfoliating process of many professional treatments. The type of anesthesia patients may have prior the Dermabrasion treatment fully depends upon the extent of their treatment. In general, local anesthesia works but in some rare cases, doctor may require to help you relax or feel drowsy and maximize the comfort level.

Then the doctor will move a device called a Dermabrader (a small, motorized device with a rough surface) across your skin. Circular Dermabrader will be in use for the large patches of skin, while on smaller places, such as the corners of your mouth, doctors may use one with a small tip.

What is a Dermaroller treatment?

For stimulation of the skin, hundreds of micro needles that are present on the surface of the roller are used to cause many tiny injuries on the skin. The Dermaroller is moved up and down on the affected area or on all parts of the skin on the face. In order to heal these tiny injuries, the skin starts producing collagen, so it is a form of artificially boosting the production of collagen in the skin. Production of excess collagen results in plumping of the skin in that area where the Dermaroller has been moving. It also helps in reducing wrinkles and fine lines and filling up the scars. Skin gets its glow back because of the poking action from the needles that improve the blood circulation in the skin. The treatment opens up all the pores of the skin to make it more receptive to any product that you may apply on it.
